o Conduct the interview either via a phone call, via a video meeting software such as Zoom, or in person if it can be done safely.
o For our purposes, a manager is defined as someone who is currently or has previously been the supervisor of at least 1 employee.
o You are not to interview a family member, though a friend of a family member might be a good prospect. I strongly recommend interviewing a manager in a position that you are interested in pursuing in the future. This assignment could be an excellent opportunity to develop a relationship within a field that you are interested in.
o The UHCL Alumni Office is also a good source for locating alumni who might be receptive to an interview.
o Out of respect for the manager’s time, I’d suggest keeping the interview no longer than 30 minutes. • In regards to this interview, you should:
o Ask the manager questions about their experience with issues relevant to this course, especially those that you are interested in knowing more about. For example, you may ask the interviewee to describe the typical (or current) issues he or she deals with and how he or she addresses (or is addressing) those issues. I encourage you to be prepared with more questions than you expect to have time to ask. You are responsible for developing those questions.
o Prior to the interview, provide a list of possible questions to the interviewee so that he or she has time to review them and consider their responses.

o Begin the interview by thanking the manager for taking the time to talk with you and explain the purpose of the interview.
o Conclude the interview by thanking the manager again and expressing your appreciation for his or her time.
• The deliverable from the interview is a maximum of a 3-page (double spaced) paper in which you should: o Introduce who you interviewed and why you chose the interviewee. Be sure to give details about the
individual, including who they are, where they work, job title and responsibilities, the specific career experience relevant to the interview, and why you chose to interview him or her.
o Summarize the key discussion points that took place during the interview. o Identify what of importance you learned as a result of the interview and discuss how that might
apply to a possible current or future career (or volunteering) opportunity. This can be written as a reflection throughout the paper or can be reserved for the latter third of your paper.
• In addition to the content, this paper will also be evaluated based on correct usage of grammar, adhering to formatting instructions, and writing quality:
o The paper should be a maximum of three pages (double spaced) in length (not including Title Page and Appendix).
o Include your Name and Interviewee Name on a title page o Include an Appendix with a list of questions you asked the interviewee. o This paper should be double-spaced, with 12 point Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins.
